The NZ MIEE Expert group are educators that are connected as part of the Global Microsoft Innovative Educator group. You can learn about this program, and apply to join HERE, and find out more about Microsoft Education options HERE.
As part of this group, two teachers, Nikkie Laing (Opaheke School) and Rachel Chisnall (Taieri College) co-ordinate monthly webinars. This teacher driven initiative allows for connections to be made across distances – we are spread right across the country – don’t allow for face to face collaboration. These webinars are a mixture of specialist providers sharing about ‘big picture thinking’ (topics have included future focussed libraries, design thinking, computer science unplugged), some technology specific sessions (such as Microsoft TEAMS, or using Minecraft EDU) and some ‘mini’ presentations by the NZ MIEE’s to share who they are and what they are working on.
We also have occasional in person meet ups (mostly in the main centers) and applications can be made to attend the Global Microsoft Educator Exchange which usually occurs in March. NZ MIEE have recently represented New Zealand educators in Seattle (2015), Budapest (2016), Toronto (2017) and Singapore (2018).
The NZ MIEE group is really excited to be having out first ever New Zealand wide face to face meet up in July 2018. The meeting will have a focus on incorporating the Digital technology curriculum into all learning areas as well as the UN sustainability goals.
